Network Card Requirements

EMBARQ™ High Speed Internet requires a modem (supplied free** of charge with your order) plus an Ethernet or USB connection. Most computers are supplied with an Ethernet (or NIC) card.

How do I know if I have an NIC/Ethernet Card?

The easiest way to determine if you already have a NIC/Ethernet card is to look at the back of your computer. Whether you own a Macintosh or PC, you should see something that looks similar to a phone jack, but larger. See the illustration below.

Have an Ethernet Card? Determine if you have an Associated Driver .

No Ethernet Card/Drive or USB Connection? You can purchase an Ethernet/NIC or USB adaptor. Include it with your online order or buy one from your local computer retailer.

Buying from EMBARQ:

SELF-INSTALLATION: You can purchase the NIC/Ethernet card as part of your online order for $24.99. Installation is easy - it is similar to installing a printer or scanner.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION: An Ethernet card is supplied by EMBARQ if you choose the professional full-installation. There is a one-time additional charge of $99 for professional installation.

Buying from a retailer:

When purchasing your Ethernet/NIC card from a local retailer, you should purchase a "10baseT" Ethernet card.
